Seatposts

Collection: Seatposts

A good seatpost is essential for every athletic cyclist. It may seem like a small component, but the right seatpost can improve your comfort, dampen vibrations, save weight, or increase your control on technical trails. Whether you ride a road bike, mountain bike (MTB), or gravel bike, it's important to choose a seatpost that suits your riding style, body type, and terrain.

In this text we explain what types of seatposts there are, what the differences are between disciplines and what the advantages are of a dropper post (adjustable seatpost).

What exactly does a seatpost do?

The seatpost connects the saddle to the bike's frame. Besides holding your saddle in place, the seatpost plays a major role in height adjustment, your riding position, and the degree of vibration dampening.

The most important features of a seatpost are:

  • Diameter (usually 27.2mm or 31.6mm)
  • Length
  • Offset / setback (distance between center tube and saddle clamp)
  • Material (aluminum, carbon or steel)
  • Adjustability (like dropper posts)

Seatposts for racing bikes: Light, sleek and efficient

For road cyclists, light weight and efficiency are paramount. Seatposts for road bikes are often made of carbon or lightweight aluminum. They are designed to filter road vibrations and maintain an aerodynamic profile.

Features of racing bike seatposts:

  • Narrow diameter (often 27.2 mm) for greater comfort
  • Little to no offset for a sporty riding position
  • Carbon models offer weight savings and damping
  • Aero-shaped seat posts on integrated frame systems

Mountain bike seatposts: robust, reliable and often adjustable

Mountain bikers benefit from a sturdy seatpost that can withstand bumps and rough conditions. Dropper posts are often used for this purpose: seatposts that you can adjust for height while riding with a button on the handlebars. Ideal for descents, technical trails, and dynamic terrain.

Features MTB seatposts:

  • Larger diameter (often 31.6 mm)
  • Short or zero offset for better control on descents
  • Aluminum is popular because of its strength
  • Dropper posts are standard on trail, enduro and downhill

Gravel bike seatposts: Comfort and versatility

Gravel bikers seek a balance between speed, comfort, and control. Gravel seatposts, like those on road bikes, can be made of carbon to dampen vibrations, but dropper posts are also becoming increasingly common in the gravel segment, especially for more technical routes or bikepacking adventures.

Gravel seatpost features:

  • Comfort-oriented (carbon or sprung aluminum)
  • Often 27.2 mm for better damping
  • Optionally with light dropper function
  • Available with setback or inline depending on your geometry

What is a dropper post?

A dropper post (also known as an adjustable seatpost) is an innovative seatpost that allows you to remotely adjust the height while riding, usually via a button on your handlebars . Ideal for mountain bikers, but also increasingly popular with gravel riders.

How does a dropper seatpost work?

A dropper post works with a hydraulic or mechanical system inside the seatpost. By pressing the control button (often located on the left side of the handlebars), the seatpost is unlocked, allowing you to push it down with your weight. When you release the button, it stays at that height.

This is how you can:

  • Descend faster with a low riding position
  • Easy to get on and off
  • More freedom of movement on technical sections

Which seatpost fits my bike?

When choosing a seatpost, pay close attention to:

  • Diameter: Measure the inside diameter of your seat tube (e.g. 27.2 or 31.6 mm)
  • Length: ensure sufficient insertion depth for safety
  • Offset: more offset means a saddle positioned further back
  • Saddle Rail Compatibility: Most are suitable for round rails, but check for carbon or oval rails

If in doubt, you can always look up the type and brand of your bicycle, or measure your old seatpost.
